Eve was born to Trevor Eve (actor) and Sharon Maughan, a writer. Her family was split between Los Angeles, California, and in the United Kingdom. She attended Bedales School, and took A-levels at the London's Westminster School. She was a student of English in St Catherine's College Oxford during the gap year. The student actress was in productions of An Ideal Husband Animal Crackers, Scenes from an Execution (which was staged to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival), as well as The Colour of Justice while in Oxford. Eve was a part of BBC dramas like The Rotters Club Poirot & Hawking as well as the 2004 film Stage Beauty. Eve played a significant role on both Starter for 10 (she and her co-star Simon Pegg used American accents) as well as Big Nothing (2006). At the start of 2006, she stayed some time in India for work on the film Losing Gemma which is a mini-series of backpackers. Eve was in Trevor Nunn's two productions. She performed at The Royal Court Theatre in 2006 in Rock n Roll, a Tom Stoppard play. In 2007 she reprised her part. The play was awarded the best supporting actress at the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards for her performance. She was the lead actress in Roxane in the Chichester Festival Theatre. Her parents are Indo-British with British origin Anthony Mitra and an Irish mother Nora Downey. Mitra is the middle kid of a multiracial household. Her elder brother, Jason Mitra, and her younger brother Guyan Mitra, are each English actors. Her younger brother Guyan Mitra, is a renowned travel writer whose work was featured on Lonely Planet as well as The Sunday Times.
